People usually land in LoSo Charlotte (Lower South End) for one of two reasons: they want a more relaxed alternative to South End, or they’re looking for better value nearby. You’re still close to the same core areas, still near the light rail, but with less pressure and often more space for the price. For renters considering apartmetns in LoSo Charlotte, the area offers a more laid-back, value-driven option while staying connected to the rest of the city.

It’s also extremely dog-friendly. Most breweries welcome dogs, and a few even pair with a dog park, which makes it especially easy to bring your pup.

Charlotte was recently ranked the #6 beer city in the country by USA Today, and LoSo is a big reason why. Within just a few blocks, you’ll find some of the city’s most popular breweries, which is why this list leans heavily in that direction.

Brewers at 4001 Yancey
Go for the beer, stay for the food… or visa versa. Brewers at 4001 Yancey is a massive 28,000 square foot industrial taproom set inside a renovated warehouse. Expect 30-40 beers on tap, plus a full food menu. Multiple patios, live music, and plenty of TVs make this a destination of its own.

Lower Left Brewing Company
Small-batch brewery known for experimental beers and a laid back, neighborhood feel. They don’t serve food but welcome bringing your own, and they often host a food truck. Dogs welcome.

Protagonist
Brewery and taproom with a large, polished space that includes barrel room, multiple bars, and a big patio (that’s heated in the winter months.) Also known for their massive 28″ pizzas. Super dog friendly.

Sugar Creek Brewing Company
Best known for Belgian-style beers, with a spacious taproom and menu including pommel frites, kebabs, and other Belgian-inspired bites. Creative community events including trivia night, “brewhouse yoga,” and recently an unreasonably competitive rock-paper-scissors tournament.

Sleepy Poet Antique Mall
About two miles south of LoSo and worth the drive. At 60,000+ square feet, it’s one of the largest antique malls in Charlotte. It’s packed with vintage pieces, furniture, and rotating vendor finds. Their slogan “no rhyme or reason, just cool stuff” is all the invitation needed to visit and lose track of time.

Olde Mecklenburg Brewery
Yes, it’s another brewery, but this one is less about the beer and more about how you spend an afternoon. Olde Mecklenburg Brewery is one of Charlotte’s original craft breweries. The indoor beer hall has a great set up with many TVs if you want to catch a game, but the outdoor space is the real draw. There are multiple seating areas, an outdoor bar, and plenty of room to spread out. It’s extremely dog-friendly, so don’t think twice about bringing your pup. OMB also hosts brewery tours, a weekly running club, and live music, which keeps the space active throughout the week.

More early evening than late-night. It’s better for drinks and hanging out than clubs.

Almost certainly yes. Light rail helps, but day-to-day convenience is easier with a car.

Absolutely. Most breweries and many restaurants allow dogs on patios. There are a few places that combine bar with a dog park so you can relax with friends while your pup gets to roam and play.
