WEST END
Historic streets, local pride, and a neighborhood evolving in real time.
West End Charlotte is one of the city’s most historic neighborhoods, known for its deep cultural roots, evolving development, and close proximity to Uptown. It was a longtime center for Black culture, business, and education, and later shaped by urban renewal and the construction of I-77.
Today, the area is seeing new investment and development alongside long-standing homes and businesses. For renters looking at apartments in west End Charlotte, the area offers more space and value near Uptown, within a neighborhood that still carries a strong sense of identity and history.

Where to Eat

Pinky’s Westside Grill
Pinky’s is a laid-back, local staple that’s been on the map for a while. It was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Drives, but still feels like the perfect neighborhood spot. The atmosphere is easy and casual, the burgers are consistently good, and with a solid beer list plus a full cocktail menu, Pinky’s naturally doubles as a laid-back dive bar.
The menu includes all the diner classics, many with a twist. For example, you’ll see the option to get your burger “ding dong style” with crunchy peanut butter, cilantro honey slaw, and sriracha. There’s also the Frito Bandito with Fritos and house-made pimento cheese, plus options like corn dog shrimp. The decor matches the same energy, just a bit chaotic with a load of nostalgia. Sticker covered doors, neon signs, random collectibles, and layers of personality built up over time.
The outdoor patio is also a standout. It’s colorful, open, and typically packed when the weather’s good. Pinky’s doesn’t take reservations, so plan for a short wait during peak hours.

Rhino Market & Deli
The go to neighborhood market is fast, friendly, and flexible. You can grab something to go, or stick around at one of the few tables inside or out on the patio. On any day, you’ll see a mix of people working, meeting up, or taking a quick break in the middle of the day.
The menu leans casual but solid, with sandwiches, salads, and local baked goods, including many vegetarian and vegan options. Rhino Market also has you covered on the basics with snacks, drinks, and quick essentials without feeling like a convenience store. They also host occasional community events.

Not Just Coffee
Exactly what it sounds like – not just coffee. It’s a place people go for breakfast, to work, to meet up, or grab a quick bite on the way home. The space is refined industrial, a bright and open space with steady stream of laptops, conversations, and community.
Que Fresa Taqueria + Bar
Casual patio spot in West End with an easy come-as-you-are vibe. Grab tacos, margaritas, and enjoy the afternoon on the patio with friends. If you go, the birria tacos are mouth-watering, and the sorbet flight with four different sold serve frozen margaritas is both colorful and refreshing.

Where to Drink

Founded in 2015, Legion has become on of Charlotte’s most recognizable breweries, with multiple award-winning beers of which Juicy Jay IPA is most well known. They have a few locations around Charlotte, but we love the West Morehead spot for its huge outdoor patio. Unlike a lot of brewers, Legion takes their food seriously with a full kitchen focused on locally sourced ingredients. With a tagline “campfire hospitality,” you know you’re in for an elevated experience.

Town Brewing Co
Open since 2018, Town Brewing built a strong local following for a focus on approachable, well-executed beers rather than chasing trends. They have a niche for sours, having taken home two golds at the Great American Beer Festival for their Cruise to Nowhere sour ale. The industrial-leaning indoor space has big garage doors that open to the outdoor patio area, allowing an indoor/outdoor experience. Super dog friendly, and there’s live music outside on most weekends.
What to Do

Five Points Plaza
The CityLYNX Gold Line stops at Bruns Avenue, just a block from Five Points Plaza where you’ll find public art celebrating the neighborhood’s rich history and community. The plaza features multiple public art pieces, including the mural at Polo’s Italian Ice. Grab one of their Charlotte-famous frozen treats and enjoy it on a bench in the Plaza with an great view of Uptown.

Historic Bungalows
Greater West End includes several neighborhoods with historic designation. Step off the main roads and you’ll find blocks of early 20th century Craftsman bungalows, many with original details like large front porches and woodwork still intact.

Jack Beagle’s
Restaurant, bar, and live music venue with an outdoor stage. The menu sticks to traditional pub fare and gets solid reviews, making it an easy spot to grab food while you’re there. Check their calendar for upcoming shows. Be sure to check in on their NoDa location for additional live music options.
Pro tip: Daily food and drink specials are posted on their website up to a week in advance. $3 margaritas anyone?
